Preach the Gospel
When many people hear "preach the Gospel," they envision standing on a street corner with a megaphone, shouting from a soapbox. If that’s what God has called you to do, then go for it. But that’s not what I mean when I talk about preaching the Gospel.
Many preachers emphasize that we should share the Gospel not just with our words, but through our actions as well. While this is true, what does that actually look like in practice?
Jesus provided the perfect blueprint. When He came to earth, He revealed the love of His Father and demonstrated the Kingdom of Heaven through His sacrifice, love, and example. He turned away from the things of this world, asking for nothing in return; indeed, the Bible tells us He had no place to lay His head. His mission was clear: to love, point people to God, and offer the hope of life in His Kingdom.
This is what intrigued the people—they recognized that the world held no sway over Him. They saw someone who didn’t belong to this realm, a stranger from a better land. Their curiosity sparked questions and drew many to follow Him, giving Jesus the opportunity to share the Gospel.
Just as Jesus did, we are called to do the same. This is what it means to preach the Gospel: to live on this earth while pointing to the love of our Father and His Kingdom. We are to exist here as if this world has no hold on us, embodying the values of God's Kingdom. Our focus should not be on material possessions, comfort, or earthly concerns. We need not fear disasters, disease, or death, for we have a God who cares for us and has prepared a future home in Heaven.
As we live in this way, others will become curious about our Kingdom lifestyle. This curiosity will provide us with opportunities to explain why we live as we do. This is how we are meant to preach the Gospel, following the example set by Jesus.
However, we cannot accomplish any of this without the power of the Holy Spirit within us. We must be fully committed, surrendered, and submitted to God. Just as Christ was a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1), we are called to be the same. We should not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds, so that we may prove what is good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.
When we do this, we preach the Gospel as God intended.
