Believe
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” ~ John 7:38
The Challenge of Belief
Imagine discovering that a chemical plant was planned for your neighborhood, one that would condemn 90% of the community to cancer and certain death. How would you react?
Here are common possible reactions:
1. Ignorance: Some might believe the benefits outweigh the risks because they lack understanding.
2. Indifference: Others, absorbed in their own lives, might ignore the danger altogether.
3. Skepticism: A person might question the validity of the threat and dismiss it.
4. Instability: Someone might believe the warning today but change their mind tomorrow.
5. Belief: The person who truly believes will take immediate action to protect themselves and others.
It’s only the one who truly believes who takes the right action. Just as a person who believes the building is on fire will run out, belief compels us to act. The same is true in our relationship with God.
Do You Truly Believe?
We must ask ourselves: Do we truly believe in God’s Word? If our belief is lacking, we won’t be motivated to live it out, and even when we act, it may not be the right action. ~ Mark 9:23-24
To believe is more than intellectual agreement; it’s a lived reality. Are we living each day with God at the forefront of our thoughts and actions? Are we focused on glorifying God, growing in Christ, and helping to build His Kingdom? Or are we caught up in the distractions of this world? ~
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” Mark 9:23-24
I’m not saying we will live perfectly, but belief should shape our hearts and our lives. If we’re not living with a kingdom focus, we may be suffering from unbelief.

The Struggle with Unbelief
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23
Jesus says the answer is to believe, but what if we struggle with unbelief?
If you want to believe, you must surrender to God completely. Offer your flesh as a living sacrifice, allowing Him to grow and prune you. Immerse yourself in His word, pray, fast, and maintain daily discipline. Fear God, respect Him, and dread the thought of losing Him. You must deny the world, live kingdom-minded, and follow Jesus 24/7.
While these things are achievable, they're not simple because it's akin to telling someone to grow up, which is no easy feat. Maturity isn't solely about self-effort; it often needs a trigger—a challenge, a realization, or even suffering. Belief in God varies for everyone—defeating unbelief necessitates surrender, whether voluntary or through challenging circumstances orchestrated by God. You want to defeat unbelief than believe. Grow up. Until that happens, you will suffer with unbelief, and your faith will suffer along with it. I am sorry—I know my answer might fall flat for many, but it's the reality of the situation.
The Path Forward
Belief is a journey, not an instant transformation. But as we walk in faith and surrender, God will grow our belief, and we will experience the fullness of life He promises.
“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” ~ Mark 9:24
