""Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

– Psalm 139:23-24

Proof vs. Faith

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. ~ Hebrews 11:6

The word "proof" might be a misnomer; perhaps "evidence" would have been more appropriate for me to use. However, many people tend to confuse the two words. The reality is no one can prove God, and no one can disprove God.I can give you evidence of God in hopes it helps you realize there is a God, but "proof"Is an impossibility that even God does not support. God requires faith above proof. Before I go on to the evidence, let me explain proof versus faith in God's economy.

Faith plays a crucial role in every aspect of our lives. Whether we are buying a car, getting married, having children, or taking a job, none of these endeavors come with guarantees. Faith provides the courage to take leaps of faith, knowing that sometimes they may lead to pitfalls, yet other times they may unveil something positive. God requires the same faith instead of proof.

First, let's discuss the difference between proof and evidence.

Evidence is information that supports or contradicts a claim, but it doesn't always prove it true. It can be open to interpretation.

Proof, however, is evidence that makes a claim undeniably true. Proof establishes the truth or validity of a statement beyond a reasonable doubt.

So, evidence supports or disputes a claim, while proof confirms it beyond any doubt.

Why Proof Alone Fails

For we live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

Many people believe that if Jesus were to show Himself physically to us, we would become followers of Christ. However, even if a skeptic were to acknowledge Jesus' existence after such an event, would they accept Him as the sole God? Would they admit that we were created for Jesus and through Jesus? Would they recognize the necessity of surrendering, submitting, and obeying Jesus to live? Both Satan and Adam and Eve rejected God for this very reason. God's physical presence was not proof enough to keep them with God. Satan and Adam and Eve failed because they lacked faith.

God Requires Faith

Evidence can lead us to open the door of our hearts, but faith opens the door.

Consider a scenario where a single person meets someone and starts noticing signs that this person could potentially be their life partner. They feel a strong connection, notice mutual interest, and find themselves inseparable. However, there's no concrete evidence that this individual is their soulmate, the one they should commit to for life.

If they decide to marry, it requires a leap of faith because there are no long-term guarantees that this person will fulfill the promises of a marital union. Only by taking this leap of faith can they truly discover if the person proves themselves worthy or unworthy of such a commitment. If this person proves themselves worthy, it can be heavenly.

(But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6)

Faith pleases God because it demonstrates trust in His ability to fulfill His promises. When we open the door to Him through faith, He sees the potential for a lasting relationship based on love, truth, and peace. With faith, there's no need for constant demands for proof; it's enough to trust. Doubt and disobedience, born from skepticism, are replaced with unity, paving the way for a peaceful Heaven. Faith unites God's children under His love, ending the struggle to believe and fostering harmony.

Relying solely on other humans for our faith, we'll inevitably face disappointment because humans are inherently flawed. However, placing our unwavering trust in a perfect God ensures stability, as only He can bear such weight. With God, it doesn't matter that we finite humans can't hold our part of this union; our infinite God can keep it all together. God proves that every day by sustaining all of creation together. God will prove Himself worthy, even though we are not worthy, and that will be Heaven.

Have you ever wondered why we so easily invest immense trust in each other, committing to lifelong partnerships in marriage, yet find it challenging to extend that same trust to the Creator of the universe? Reflect on a God whose love for us is profound, demonstrated through the sacrifice of His only son for our redemption. Despite ample evidence of His love and presence in this world, perhaps if we opened our eyes to it, we might find the courage to take that leap of faith leading to our salvation. Instead, we take these leaps of faith in each other that may lead us away from our salvation.
