"For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."

– Matthew 16:25

Devotion
Two Stories

God allows us a choice between two stories—our own or the invitation to be part of His. Now, suppose you are given a choice: to write your own story as you wish or to join God’s. Which one will you choose?

Both stories come with restrictions. They are confined within the walls of this world—a world filled with darkness, confusion, lies, and chaos. Because of this, both stories will include suffering, pain, heartache, and death. They unfold in a world consumed by greed, selfishness, emptiness, lust, covetousness, and temptation.

If we choose to write our own story, we face even greater limitations. Our story has no true foundation, no real purpose. Every chapter we write, every decision we make, every path we take—all are chosen without knowing where they will lead. And because our story must weave between countless others, all competing for space and direction, it can be stifled, altered, or even forced to change against our will.

Even so, we are free to write our own story within the walls of these restrictions. But there is one final reality we must consider—our story can only end in one of two ways.

If we write our story within the confines of unbelief, its final chapter will lead to nothing. It will be like watching a movie for two hours, waiting for meaning, only for the screen to fade to black as the credits roll—leaving you wondering what it was all for.

But if we view our story through the lens of God’s economy, the ending is far more tragic. The final chapter will be spent permanently confined to the darkness in which it was written. It will end in Hell.

The Story God Invites You to Join

But there is another story—one God invites us to be part of.

God’s story is already written. It has a beginning, a foundation, a plan, and a purpose. It is the one true story that cuts through the countless narratives people try to write for themselves, piercing the darkness of this world and leading to light.

It is a story of love, redemption, grace, and eternal glory. It tells of soldiers who fought the good fight, ran the race of faith, and stored up treasures that will be rewarded in Heaven. It is a story built on the Gospel, with Christ as its foundation—our Savior who died so we might live.

It is a story of discovering a Father, a family, and God Himself. A journey to finding our true identity, our purpose, and a love that gives life meaning. It is living with His love flowing through us, shaping who we are. And unlike the fleeting endings of human stories, this story leads to a glorious conclusion—one of love, paradise, and eternal glory.

God allows us to write our own story, but in the end, it leads to death. He also invites us to become part of His story—a story that leads to life. But to step into His story, we must first surrender our own.
